First National Bank of Shiner was founded in 1891, one year after Shiner was incorporated as a city. In that year, Confederate Captain and local rancher Charles Welhausen established a private bank for the growing railroad town. In 1900 Captain Charles’ private bank became federally chartered as First National Bank of Shiner.
In an area where cotton was "king" and cattle ranching was big, the bank continued to provide financial services to the community despite the decline of the cotton market, droughts and other economic downturns, proving that strong community values and traditional banking have always been and continue to be an integral part of how this bank does business.
In 2001, a Texas Historical Commission marker was placed at the bank to commemorate the history of First National Bank of Shiner.
First National Bank of Shiner is now a member of Industry Bancshares, a holding company established by shareholders from the Industry, Texas community. Formed in 1993, Industry Bancshares owns Industry State Bank in Industry, Texas, Citizens State Bank in Buffalo, Texas, Fayetteville Bank in Fayetteville, Texas, First National Bank of Bellville in Bellville, Texas, First National Bank of Shiner in Shiner, Texas and Bank of Brenham in Brenham, Texas.
